Washington, DC Press Conference
The Almanac of Latino Politics was released during a press conference held immediately following the briefing. "The data presented in The Almanac of Latino Politics strongly suggests that a serious Black and Latino coalition has the potential to change the face of American politics, not only at the national level, but in electoral opportunities at state and local government as well," stated Dr. Ron Walters, Executive Director of the African American Leadership Center.
Speakers at the press conference included: Senator Ken Salazar (CO), Senator Robert Menendez (NJ), and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee (TX).
The 2008 issue of the Almanac provides a historical context for analyzing Latino population growth, the Latino vote, Latino political behavior in presidential and non-presidential elections, and the impact of immigration on the Latino vote. The Almanac also surveys the political landscape in which Latinos and African Americans can create electoral coalitions at all levels of government. Publication of The Almanac of Latino Politics was co-sponsored by the National Education Association, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers International Union, Service Employees International Union, and AARP.
The event was covered by: ABC, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, NPR, Hispanic Link News, Epicentro Politico, New America Media, TV Azteca, and CNN Radio en Español.
