USHLI Completes GLDPs in Nebraska and Connecticut

A Grassroots Leadership Development Program (GLDP) was recently completed in Grand Island, NE and in Wallingford, CT. Spearheading the programs were Odalys Perez in Grand Island and Blanca Santana in Wallingford. Please click here to view the photo gallery for pictures of the two groups.

Dr. Juan Andrade and Cesar Moreno, USHLI Associate Executive Director, met with Latino grassroots community leaders in Wallingford, CT to launch the GLDP program there.

Following the presentation of certificates to leaders who successfully completed the GLDP in Grand Island, Field Coordinators Isabel Reyes and Ricardo Lopez met with residents of Lincoln and Lexington as well as student leaders from University of Nebraska at Omaha. As a result, USHLI will initiate a GLDP in Lexington and Lincoln this summer, and a Collegiate Leadership Development Program (CLDP) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) the fall semester of 2008.

Our GLDP is a 10-week training program for grassroots community leaders and local public officials representing city, county and school governments. One of the weekly sessions is a special financial literacy seminar utilizing Freddie Mac's CreditSmart Español curriculum. The remaining nine weekly sessions focus on how city, county and school governments work (three weeks each) and how to make them work more effectively.

For a more complete description of the program contact Dr. Andrade at docandrade@ushli.org to get a GLDP started in your community.
